Christian ROCHE - Regional Winemaker

Five generations in viticulture, I inherited part of the property in 1984. Five years later, I decided to develop the winery with a focus on becoming an independent winemaker and producer.

After a few years, with the constant desire to produce better wines and realizing that conventional cultivation practices were impoverishing the soil and the quality of the wine, I decided to go back to the basics: respect for the soil and the vines.

The outcome of this process was a decision made in 2012, after 3 years of certification, to convert the entire property to Organic Farming.

Since then, more than ever, respecting the environment and the expression of the terroir through the grapes allows me to obtain the most authentic wines.

This process starts with the vine by working the soil in depth for a better rootsetting, a choice in the layout of the grape varieties as well as in the massal selection. The process continues by selecting a maturation process either in vats, barrels or tuns, adapted to the concentration of the grape juice.

All these factors contribute to the outcome of the final quality in an effort to achieve a perfect balance between intensity and flavour in the most natural way possible.

Expression of the terroir through the grapes

The winery is located in the heart of Colombier in the South West region of France, just south of Bergerac in the Périgord. It has a 50 hectares vineyard, 33 of which are cultivated with white grape vines and 17 hectares which are cultivated with red grape vines dedicated to the production of red and rosé wines.

The grape varieties selected for vinification of dry or sweet white wines are Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, Sauvignon Gris, Muscadelle, Chenin and Ondenc.

The last two are accessory grape varieties authorised in the appellation with a limited percentage in the blend.

Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec are the grape varieties selected for red and rosé wines.
